The Role
We are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Surveyor to support the delivery of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) programme. Working within the Private Sector Housing Team, you will play a key role in helping disabled and vulnerable residents remain independent in their own homes through the design, procurement and management of adaptation works. You will work closely with Occupational Therapists, clients, contractors and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality adaptations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake home visits to assess properties and discuss adaptation requirements with clients and Occupational Therapists.
- Carry out property surveys and prepare technical specifications, schedules of work and drawings for adaptation projects.
- Design practical adaptation solutions, including reconfiguration of existing spaces and, where required, extension works.
- Obtain and evaluate contractor quotations and make recommendations for approval.
- Prepare tender documentation and evaluate tenders where applicable.
- Coordinate planning applications, building regulations submissions and party wall matters as required.
- Manage adaptation projects from inception through to completion.
- Monitor contractors on site to ensure works are completed to the required standards and specifications.
- Carry out final inspections and ensure client satisfaction upon completion of works.
- Manage defects during the defects liability period and ensure remedial works are completed.
- Monitor project expenditure and contract budgets, recommending payments where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and case files using relevant software systems.
- Liaise effectively with Occupational Therapists, contractors, architects, engineers, social workers and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements
Essential
- Qualification in Building Surveying, Building Studies, Construction or a related discipline.
- Experience in building surveying, housing adaptations, residential construction or a related field.
- Knowledge of building construction, building regulations and health and safety requirements.
- Experience preparing technical specifications, schedules of work and contract documentation.
- Understanding of procurement processes and contract administration.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise workload effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant surveying software.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable
- Experience working within a Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) service.
- Local authority or housing sector experience.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Experience designing housing adaptations, reconfigurations and extensions.
- Professional membership with a relevant body such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA or ARB.
- Experience working with vulnerable residents and complex cases.
