Working Days: Mondays to Thursdays

Working Hours: 08:15–15:45

Role Purpose

To provide classroom and pastoral support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they are able to access learning, engage positively in lessons, and make progress in line with their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEN within the classroom to help them access the curriculum.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to implement lesson plans and differentiated activities.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support where required.
  • Assist in the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Support Plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support the school’s behaviour policies.
  • Support students’ emotional wellbeing and social development.
  • Adapt learning materials and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Assist with pastoral care and safeguarding responsibilities in line with school policy.
  • Support students during transitions, break times, or other structured/unstructured periods as required.

Person Specification

  • Essential
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN.
  • Ability to support students with a range of additional needs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, empathetic and supportive approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Desirable
    • Previous experience in a school setting.
    • Knowledge of EHCPs and SEN strategies.
    • Relevant Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification.
