A typical day includes planning and delivering lessons, assessing students’ progress, providing feedback, and adapting teaching to meet individual needs.

The teacher also works closely with teaching assistants, residential staff, and other professionals to support each young person’s wellbeing and learning.

Other responsibilities include managing behavior positively, maintaining accurate records, contributing to education plans, and ensuring safeguarding and health and safety procedures are always followed.

To plan, deliver, and assess a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum that meets the educational, personal, and emotional needs of young people within a secure setting.

The role aims to raise achievement, promote positive behavior and wellbeing, support individual learning plans, and work collaboratively with residential staff and other professionals to provide high-quality education and care.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual educational needs of young people and support their academic progress.
  • Assess learning, maintain accurate records, provide feedback, and prepare reports to track attainment, attendance, and development.
  • Manage behaviour effectively, follow safeguarding and child protection procedures, and ensure health, safety, security, and inclusion within the secure setting.
  • Act as a tutor for a house group, contribute to Personal Education Plans (PEPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and promote students’ wellbeing and positive behavior.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, residential staff, parents/careers (where appropriate), and external agencies to support young people’s educational outcomes.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, schemes of work, teaching resources, and continuous improvement of the curriculum to meet learners’ needs.
  • Participate in monitoring teaching quality, reviewing programmed of work, implementing school improvement priorities, and maintaining high educational standards.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, comply with school policies, confidentiality, equality, safeguarding, and statutory requirements, while contributing positively to the school’s ethos and values.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Degree or equivalent qualification relevant to teaching
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance
  • Eligibility to teach in the UK.
