Business unit lead - CDM & Health & Safety

Below, you will find a complete breakdown of everything required of potential candidates, as well as how to apply Good luck.
Build the team. Grow the client base. Lead the London business.
Carriera has been exclusively retained by a leading UK property and construction consultancy to appoint a CDM & Health & Safety Lead for its London operation.
This is much more than a technical CDM position.
Our client is looking for an ambitious, commercially minded Health & Safety professional who can take ownership of the London service: leading the team, developing existing relationships, winning new instructions and establishing themselves as a senior figure within the wider business.
For someone with the right ambition, this represents a genuine opportunity to build a business unit and progress through Associate and Director level towards senior leadership.
The opportunity:
Our client is an established, award-winning multidisciplinary consultancy employing more than 600 people across through a network of UK offices.
The London office has an established client base, a strong pipeline of work and access to relationships across Project Management, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying and wider consultancy services.
The foundations are already there.
The opportunity is to take those foundations and grow them.
You will become the senior point of contact for CDM and Health & Safety in London, with responsibility for developing the service both internally and externally.
That will include:
Leading and developing the London CDM and Health & Safety offering.
Managing and mentoring consultants as the team grows.
Taking ownership of key client relationships.
Identifying, developing and winning new instructions.
Building relationships with developers, investors, occupiers, architects, project managers and other property professionals.
Working closely with colleagues across the wider consultancy to identify cross-selling opportunities.
Developing relationships with existing clients who are not currently using the Health & Safety team.
Supporting bids, proposals, presentations and fee negotiations.
Representing the business within the London property and construction market.
Maintaining oversight of project delivery, quality and commercial performance.
Delivering Principal Designer and CDM consultancy services where appropriate.
Playing an active role in the wider strategy and growth of the business.
A role with genuine influence:
We are not simply looking for someone to inherit a portfolio of projects.
We want to speak with people who enjoy building something.
You may already lead a CDM or Health & Safety team and want greater autonomy, or you could be an ambitious Senior or Principal Consultant who has developed strong client relationships and is ready to take responsibility for a regional business.
Either way, you are likely to know the London property market, understand how consultancy relationships are developed and be comfortable turning conversations into opportunities.
You won't be expected to do this alone.
You will have the backing of an established multidisciplinary consultancy, an extensive existing client base and senior colleagues who can introduce you into relationships across the business.
The opportunity is to use that platform to create a market-leading London CDM and Health & Safety team.
What we're looking for
We are interested in speaking with people who can combine technical credibility with leadership and commercial ambition.
You are likely to have:
Strong experience within CDM, Principal Designer and Health & Safety consultancy.
Excellent knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
Membership of IOSH, APS or another relevant professional body.
Experience working within the London property and construction market.
Strong client-facing and relationship management skills.
The ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
An existing network within property, construction or professional consultancy.
Experience mentoring, managing or developing other consultants.
The confidence to work alongside Partners and Directors across a multidisciplinary business.
A commercial mindset and an interest in building a successful and profitable service.
Previous responsibility for business development, fee generation or team performance would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in ambitious individuals ready to take that next step.
The projects
The team works across an exceptionally varied portfolio, including:
Commercial offices
High-end residential
Major residential developments
Education
Hotels and leisure
Heritage and refurbishment
Infrastructure
Renewable energy
Technology facilities
Advanced manufacturing
Aerospace
You'll work with established clients while having the freedom to develop new relationships and sectors.
Why consider it?
If you are looking for another role simply delivering CDM projects, this probably isn't it.
If you want the opportunity to take ownership of a service, develop a team, build a client base and have a genuine influence over the direction of a successful consultancy, it is worth a conversation.
You will have the brand, infrastructure, multidisciplinary relationships and existing clients behind you.
What you do with that platform is where the opportunity becomes interesting.
