About the Role
Our client is a fast-growing science and technology organisation developing a world-class research campus in Oxford. They are seeking an electrically biased Senior Maintenance Engineer to play a key role across both the construction phase and long-term operation of a high-spec, technically complex site.
The first 12–18 months will focus on commissioning, construction integration, and operational readiness, including advising contractors and establishing maintenance strategies ahead of handover. Post-completion, you will lead maintenance delivery, managing a team to ensure high performance, reliability, and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed knowledge of building services systems (electrical, mechanical, HVAC) during construction and commissioning
- Act as engineering lead, advising contractors on installation, commissioning, and long-term maintainability
- Establish maintenance strategies, PPM schedules, and operational procedures ahead of handover
- Lead and manage maintenance operations, ensuring performance, compliance, and uptime
- Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance, acting as escalation point for complex faults
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technicians
- Manage contractors and suppliers, ensuring quality, safety, and delivery standards
Essential Requirements
- Engineering qualification (apprenticeship, HNC/HND or degree) with strong knowledge of electrical and building services systems (mechanical, HVAC)
- Proven experience in a Senior Maintenance Engineer / Electrical Engineer / Facilities Engineer role within a complex environment
- Experience managing PPM and reactive maintenance, with strong fault-finding capability
- Demonstrated team leadership experience and ability to manage performance
- Strong understanding of health & safety, compliance, and building regulations
- Ability to work across multiple sites in the Oxford area
Desirable Experience
- Laboratory, healthcare, or other regulated environments
- Commissioning, soft landings, or new-build projects
- High-spec or technically complex facilities
