Construction Consultancy | Residential & Higher Risk Buildings
Carriera is partnering with a well-respected construction consultancy that is growing its Principal Designer (Building Regulations) offering. We are seeking an experienced professional to deliver Principal Designer services in line with the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA) across a varied portfolio of residential projects, including Higher Risk Buildings (HRBs).
This is an excellent opportunity to join a consultancy with a strong reputation for quality, compliance, and client service. As Principal Designer (Building Regulations), you will work with Housing Associations, Local Authorities, and private sector clients, delivering Principal Designer services across the design and pre-construction stages.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering Principal Designer (Building Regulations) duties in accordance with the Building Safety Act 2022
- Ensuring design teams are competent and appropriately resourced to discharge their duties
- Reviewing and monitoring design work to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and Building Safety requirements
- Reviewing Building Safety Cases and supporting project compliance strategies
- Attending design team and client meetings in line with agreed scopes of service
- Reviewing existing designs, specifications, and technical documentation for regulatory compliance
- Managing and monitoring design changes through agreed Change Management procedures
- Obtaining written confirmation from designers and consultants confirming compliance with Building Regulations
- Preparing and submitting signed competence declaration.
Project Experience:
- Residential developments across public and private sectors
- Mixed-use schemes and regeneration projects
- Fire remediation and building safety improvement works
- High-rise and complex residential buildings
You will ideally demonstrate:
- Experience in a Principal Designer, Design Management, or Architectural position
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate and influence multi-disciplinary design teams
- Proactive approach with excellent time management and organisational skills
- Confident, professional client-facing skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
- Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations and Building Regulations
- Experience implementing health and safety procedures and monitoring design compliance
- Site experience within the construction or built environment sector
Desirable:
- Professional qualification in architecture, building surveying, building services, or similar
- Membership of or working towards IMaPS, GradIOSH, or higher
- NEBOSH Construction or Occupational Health & Safety Certificate
- Working towards or registered with the RIBA Principal Designer Register or an equivalent body (CIAT, APS, etc.)
