Carriera Limited is working with a well-regarded and forward-thinking property and construction consultancy in Liverpool that is looking to appoint a Senior Principal Designer (BSA). This role would suit an experienced Principal Designer or an Architect with strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and demonstrable Principal Designer experience, who can act as a champion for building safety compliance and design excellence within the Manchester office.
The Opportunity
You will work across a diverse portfolio of projects including residential, education, mixed-use, care homes, healthcare, commercial, and regeneration schemes, with a particular focus on residential developments and Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs). This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, medium-sized consultancy that values collaboration, technical excellence, and professional development, and is continuing to expand its Building Safety and Principal Designer capability.
Role Responsibilities
- Acting in accordance with the Building Safety Act 2022, you will deliver full Principal Designer services for Housing Association and Local Authority clients, including:
- Ensuring the design team has the appropriate competence, capability, and experience to fulfil their duties.
- Confirming that all design work complies with Building Safety and Building Regulations requirements.
- Reviewing and contributing to the Building Safety Case for applicable buildings.
- Attending and contributing to design team and client meetings in line with agreed programmes and scopes of work.
- Monitoring design development in accordance with the project implementation process and Building Safety Case requirements.
- Reviewing existing designs, specifications, and documentation for regulatory compliance.
- Managing design changes through an agreed Change Management Regime, ensuring all amendments are properly assessed and approved.
- Obtaining written confirmation from designers and consultants that their designs comply with relevant Building Regulations.
- Preparing and submitting signed competence declarations.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as a Principal Designer, Design Manager, or Architect.
- Excellent leadership and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Proactive and detail-oriented approach to building safety and compliance.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to provide training and guidance to clients and internal colleagues on Building Safety and PD responsibilities.
