Up to £70,000 + £5,000 car/travel allowance + bonus + excellent benefits

An opportunity to take ownership of a regional Health & Safety offering, build on an established platform and become a recognised figure in the North East property and construction market.

Carriera is working with an established, award-winning multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy to appoint a Regional Health & Safety Lead for its Newcastle office.

This is not simply a delivery role.

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety and CDM professional who understands the North East market, has strong relationships across the property and construction sector and can use that network to identify opportunities, develop clients and secure new instructions.

You will take ownership of the Health & Safety and CDM service across the region, combining technical delivery with business development and regional leadership.

Importantly, you will not be starting from scratch. You will work alongside established colleagues across the consultancy, developing opportunities from existing internal client relationships while also building your own external network and pipeline.

The opportunity:

The consultancy has been established for more than 70 years, employs over 600 professionals across a network of UK offices and provides a broad range of services across the built environment.

The Newcastle business already has established relationships and expertise across multiple disciplines. Your role will be to maximise that platform, becoming the regional lead for Health & Safety and CDM and ensuring the service is introduced effectively across existing and new clients.

You will be expected to:

  • Lead the Health & Safety and CDM offering across Newcastle and the wider North East.
  • Build a strong profile within the regional property and construction market.
  • Identify, target and develop new client relationships.
  • Generate leads and convert opportunities into fee-earning instructions.
  • Work closely with internal teams to identify cross-selling opportunities within existing client accounts.
  • Build relationships with developers, property owners, investors, consultants and other key regional stakeholders.
  • Develop a sustainable pipeline of Health & Safety, CDM and Principal Designer work.
  • Deliver and oversee high-quality technical commissions.
  • Help recruit and develop the regional team as workload increases.
  • Contribute to the wider growth strategy of the Newcastle office.

The role:

Alongside the commercial responsibilities, you will remain involved in technical delivery, providing services including:

  • Advisor to the Principal Designer.
  • Health & Safety consultancy.
  • Pre-Construction Information and Construction Phase Plan reviews.
  • Health & Safety files.
  • Site inspections and audits.
  • Client, contractor and design team meetings.
  • Strategic Health & Safety advice.

Projects span a diverse range of sectors including residential, commercial, education, infrastructure, technology, renewable energy, aerospace, heritage, hotels and leisure.

About you:

We are particularly interested in speaking with someone who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial ambition.

You are likely to have:

  • Established experience within the North East property and construction market.
  • A network of local clients, consultants and industry contacts.
  • Evidence of developing client relationships and winning new instructions.
  • The confidence to identify opportunities and convert conversations into work.
  • Experience working collaboratively with colleagues to develop existing client accounts.
  • Strong Health & Safety, CDM and Principal Designer experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • Membership of IOSH and/or APS.
  • Experience within a property or construction consultancy environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Why consider it?

The attraction of this position is the combination of autonomy, existing infrastructure and genuine growth potential.

You will have the opportunity to shape the Health & Safety business across the North East rather than simply inherit a portfolio of projects.

You will have access to an established internal client base, the support of a 600+ person consultancy and the freedom to develop your own relationships and market presence.

For someone commercially minded, there is a genuine opportunity to build a significant regional service and progress into a senior leadership position within the business.

The package includes:

  • Salary up to £70,000 depending on experience.
  • £5,000 car or travel allowance.
  • Annual performance bonus.
  • Pension.
  • Life assurance.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Genuine opportunity to build and lead a regional team.
  • Long-term progression into senior leadership.

This would particularly suit an established Health & Safety or CDM professional in the North East who feels they have the relationships, reputation and commercial ability to build something of their own, but wants the backing, client base and resources of a major consultancy behind them.
