Role: Architectural Technologist / Design Manager
Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire
Salary: Β£50,000 - Β£60,000 + benefits
Working: Hybrid
Carriera is excited to be working with a growing building construction consultancy in Leeds that is looking to appoint an Architectural Technologist / Design Manager to join their expanding team. This is a highly client-facing role that would suit an experienced Architectural Technologist or Design Manager who has a strong understanding of building design, construction and compliance, and is confident working with clients, architects, consultants and contractors.
The position offers an opportunity to move beyond traditional design responsibilities and become involved in design coordination, compliance, CDM and Building Safety, working closely with clients and project teams throughout the design and pre-construction stages. You do not need previous Building Regulations Principal Designer experience for this role. The business already has a Lead BR/PD in place, so they are looking for someone with strong design and technical knowledge who can complement the existing team.
The Role
You will play a key role in coordinating design information and supporting clients throughout the design and pre-construction stages. A major part of the position will involve chairing design meetings, coordinating design actions and managing Schedule 1 trackers to ensure that outstanding information, risks and compliance requirements are being addressed.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary design teams and clients, helping to identify issues within the design process and ensuring that projects remain coordinated and compliant. This is an excellent opportunity for an Architectural Technologist or Design Manager who enjoys the design process but is looking to develop into a more consultancy and client-facing position.
Key Responsibilities
- Chair and facilitate design team meetings with clients, consultants and contractors.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and manage design actions.
- Manage Schedule 1 trackers and ensure outstanding actions are progressed.
- Review design information and identify potential compliance, coordination and buildability issues.
- Coordinate design information throughout the pre-construction process.
- Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Engage directly with clients and provide clear, practical advice.
- Support clients throughout the design and pre-construction stages.
- Identify and coordinate design risks and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
- Understand how design decisions can impact health, safety, construction and compliance.
- Support the wider Principal Designer and Building Regulations function where required.
- Attend client meetings, design reviews and project workshops.
- Develop exposure to Gateway-related projects and the Building Safety Act.
- Work alongside the Lead BR/PD to support the delivery of compliant projects.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
You could currently be working as an:
- Architectural Technologist
- Senior Architectural Technologist
- Design Manager
- Senior Design Coordinator
- Architectural Designer
- Technical Design Manager
- Design Consultant
You should have:
- A strong technical understanding of building design and construction.
- Experience coordinating design information and multidisciplinary teams.
- Confidence chairing design meetings and managing actions.
- Strong client-facing and communication skills.
- An understanding of building compliance and design risk.
- The ability to challenge design information and coordinate teams effectively.
- An understanding of CDM 2015 would be advantageous.
- Exposure to the Building Safety Act or Higher Risk Buildings would be beneficial.
- Gateway experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
- A genuine interest in developing further within design compliance, CDM and Building Safety.
The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity for an Architectural Technologist or Design Manager who wants to broaden their career and move into a more consultancy-focused, client-facing position.
Rather than being purely focused on producing or coordinating design information, you will have the opportunity to become involved in design compliance, CDM, Building Safety and Gateway-related projects.
You will work alongside an experienced Lead BR/PD, giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of Building Regulations and the wider Building Safety environment without needing to already be a qualified BR/PD.
If you're an experienced Architectural Technologist or Design Manager who understands design, enjoys working with clients and wants to develop your career into design compliance and Building Safety, this could be an excellent next step.
