Carriera is delighted to be partnering with a well-established property and construction consultancy that is looking to bring a developing CDM / Principal Designer into its team. This is a great opportunity for someone who has already built a foundation within the construction or design industry and is now ready to specialise in CDM and Principal Design.
You may currently be working in an architectural, design coordination, building surveying or junior health and safety position, with some exposure to CDM and design risk management. You're now looking for a role where you can put that experience into practice, work alongside established industry professionals and take the next step in your career.
The business offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a varied project portfolio, develop client-facing skills and progress towards taking responsibility for your own CDM / Principal Designer projects.
The Opportunity
Joining an established consultancy team, you will work alongside experienced CDM and Principal Design professionals, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle and developing your understanding of the Principal Designer role. The position will involve:
- Supporting the delivery of CDM Consultant and Principal Designer services across a range of construction projects.
- Reviewing architectural drawings and design information to identify potential health and safety risks.
- Assisting with design risk assessments and the coordination of design team information.
- Contributing to Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and Health & Safety Files.
- Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and other design professionals.
- Attending design team meetings and developing relationships with clients.
- Advising on the practical application of CDM Regulations 2015.
- Supporting site visits and project reviews where required.
- Gradually taking ownership of project responsibilities as your technical knowledge and confidence develop.

- A Design Coordinator looking to move into Principal Design.
- A Building Surveyor with some CDM exposure.

Ideally, you'll have:
- Approximately two years' experience within construction, design or a related consultancy environment.
- Some understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and construction health and safety.
- An appreciation of design risk management and the importance of considering safety throughout the design process.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to engage with different project stakeholders.
- A proactive attitude and genuine interest in developing within the CDM / Principal Designer discipline.
- A relevant construction, architectural or health and safety qualification.
- APS or IOSH membership would be beneficial, although professional development and progression will be supported.
