Associate Quantity Surveyor Location: Winchester Salary: Up to £80,000 plus package Sector: Education, Residential (PBSA), Local Government, Charity Workplace type: Hybrid We’re working with a leading built environment consultancy who are looking to hire an Associate Quantity Surveyor to join their thriving Cost Management team based in Winchester. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a proactive and driven professional to deliver end-to-end cost management services across a diverse project portfolio, including work with long-standing local government and charitable clients. You’ll lead from the front, act as the main client liaison, and support junior staff development while shaping the success of significant new and ongoing projects. Key Responsibilities Lead delivery of cost management services from inception through to completion across multiple projects. Manage large-scale projects (from £1m to £60m+) within sectors such as education, PBSA, and public/charity. Oversee pre- and post-contract services, including feasibility studies, cost plans, tendering, and final account negotiations. Provide procurement advice and prepare tender documentation in line with JCT/NEC contracts. Deliver post-contract cost control, manage variations, and support financial monitoring and reporting. Build trusted relationships with clients and consultants to ensure service excellence. Lead, mentor, and develop junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Contribute to business development activities and support strategic planning to win repeat and new business. Use digital tools such as CostX and BIM to deliver efficient quantity take-offs and cost estimates. Support sustainability goals through involvement in Life Cycle Costing (LCC), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and reinstatement assessments (where required). What We’re Looking For Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar technical discipline (RICS-accredited). MRICS preferred but not essential. 15+ years’ experience delivering complex, multi-sector projects. Proficient in JCT and NEC suite of contracts. Knowledge of capital allowances, LCC, LCA and reinstatement assessments beneficial. Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills. Proven leadership experience and ability to manage teams effectively. Familiarity with digital estimating tools (CostX) and interest in BIM/AI integration.
