About Us

Carr Gomm is a leading social care and community development charity supporting people across Scotland to live their best lives. In Argyll & Bute, our Housing Support Services support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to secure housing or maintain their tenancy. Our Support Practitioners support people to maintain stable homes through trusted relationships and meaningful community connections.

About the Role

As a Support Practitioner (Housing Support), you will work with individuals facing homelessness, tenancy‑related difficulties, and other housing challenges. Your duties will include but are not restricted to:

  • Regularly review and update support plans to stay relevant and outcome focused
  • Use problem‑solving and creativity to enhance choices and social connections
  • Build strong professional relationships with families, friends, and agencies
  • Advocate for people and connect them to community resources
  • Ensure informed decision‑making through human‑rights‑based processes
  • Maintain accurate records, including risk assessments and reports
  • Provide practical support for tenancy management and independent living
  • Manage time effectively with a flexible, adaptable approach

As a Support Practitioner (Housing Support), you will empower people to live the life they choose. By following each person’s unique support plan, which details the personal outcomes we aim to achieve together, you will recognise and build on people’s strengths, encouraging positive risk‑taking and helping foster choice and control. Your holistic approach and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to provide practical support and encouragement across all aspects of everyday life, including:

  • Supporting people to find and maintain suitable accommodation
  • Managing bills, budgeting, and dealing with debt
  • Making the most of income and benefits
  • Building skills and confidence to find work or volunteering
  • Signposting people to other services and community opportunities
  • Supporting social connections, hobbies, and leisure activities

Your empathetic nature will recognise that everyone’s needs are unique and may change over time. You’ll be there to offer the right support, at the right time, to help people achieve their goals and thrive in their community. This is not an exhaustive list; people’s lives are dynamic, and good support means being adaptable and responsive. You will always have the guidance of a manager to discuss any aspect of the support you provide.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for people who are compassionate, reliable, and community‑minded. Full training is provided, and you’ll be supported to achieve an SVQ in Health and Social Care while you work. We welcome both drivers and non‑drivers. Many roles involve travel across rural communities, so having a full driving licence is preferred but not essential. We are looking for candidates who are flexible to work a variety of shift patterns, supporting people when they need it, including days, evenings, and weekends.
