Overview

If you’re passionate about supporting people to maintain their independence and build a better future, we currently have a part-time opportunity to join our Housing Support Team as a Support Practitioner. You will provide person-centred support to individuals experiencing housing challenges within Campbeltown and Islay. The role covers two locations, so travel between Campbeltown and Islay is required. Driving license is preferred.

What we are looking for

  • Warm & honest
  • Able to build trust and a safe environment
  • Resilient and patient; able to handle challenges and stay positive through them
  • Empathetic and compassionate; always putting people first
  • Motivated & respectful
  • Creative & solution-focused with the ability to think outside the box
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

About the Role

As a Housing Support Practitioner, you will work with individuals facing homelessness, tenancy-related difficulties, and other housing challenges. Your duties will include, but are not restricted to:

  • Regularly review and update support plans to stay relevant and goal-focused
  • Use problem-solving and creativity to enhance choices and social connections
  • Build strong professional relationships with families, friends, and agencies
  • Advocate for individuals and connect them to community resources
  • Ensure informed decision-making through human-rights-based processes
  • Maintain accurate records, including risk assessments and reports
  • Provide practical support for tenancy management and independent living
  • Manage time effectively with a flexible, adaptable approach

While experience is welcome, full training (including SVQ qualifications) is provided alongside regular support and supervision from your Service Manager. The right values and motivation are essential; honesty, respect, empathy, and compassion are key skills for joining our team.

This post is for 22.5 hours per week. You will be based in our Campbeltown office with fortnightly visits to Islay expected. As a Support Practitioner, you will empower people to live the life they choose by following each person’s unique support plan, recognizing and building on people’s strengths, encouraging positive risk-taking, and helping foster choice and control. Your holistic approach and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to provide practical support across all aspects of everyday life, including:

  • Finding somewhere to live
  • Setting up and sustaining a tenancy
  • Managing bills, budgeting, and dealing with debt
  • Making the most of income and benefits
  • Building skills and confidence to find work or volunteering
  • Linking people to other services and community opportunities
  • Supporting social connections, hobbies, and leisure activities

Your empathetic nature will recognise that everyone’s needs are unique and may change over time — you’ll be there to offer the right support, at the right time, to help people achieve their goals and thrive in their community.

This is not an exhaustive list — peoples’ lives are dynamic, and good support work means being adaptable and responsive. You will always have the guidance of a manager to discuss any aspect of the support you provide.

What We Offer

  • Anti-social hours payment of up to £1241 when undertaking waking night shift (11pm-7am)
  • Enhanced mileage payment of 45p per mile
  • 35 days’ holiday per year, increasing to 40 days with length of service
  • £200 Recommend a Friend Scheme (Terms & Conditions apply)
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, and sick leave
  • A Defined Contribution pension scheme with incremental employer contributions
  • Free Blue Light Card (giving access to thousands of discounts and promotions)
  • Access to the Carr Gomm App, including free physiotherapy, health coaching and counselling
  • Membership of a credit union
  • Cycle to work scheme; and more
