To manage a caseload of litigated and non‑litigated personal injury claims with a value of up to £100,000.00, ensuring each case is progressed efficiently from initial instruction through to resolution. The role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of claims, applying sound legal judgement and procedural knowledge to achieve timely and cost‑effective outcomes for clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run a caseload of litigated and non‑litigated personal injury claims with a value of up to £100,000 efficiently, proactively and profitably.
  • Ensure that customers receive gold‑standard customer care.
  • Handle Fixed Fee and Portal RTA including untraced and uninsured MIB claims, maximizing damages for the customer by pursuing all relevant heads of loss.
  • Obtain appropriate medical and non‑medical evidence in accordance with the relevant track and recoverability.
  • Use the PI Calculator to assist efficient progression of cases.
  • Issue proceedings using the Court Portal.
  • Attend conferences, hearings and CMCs with Counsel if necessary.
  • Advise customers on litigation/cost risks where appropriate.
  • Advise customers on the risks associated with fundamental dishonesty, ensuring all evidence is closely reviewed and cross‑referenced for consistency.
  • Obtain instructions from relevant parties, including lay customers, insurers, litigation friends, attorneys or deputies, in a timely manner.
  • Comply with professional conduct rules and internal policies.
  • Prioritize court directions, ensuring timely compliance.
  • Keep customers informed and updated regularly throughout the life of the claim, using technology where appropriate while maintaining a personal connection.
  • Build constructive working relationships with defendant solicitors and insurers with a focus on collaboration.
  • Check authenticity and validity of claims through due diligence.
  • Continuously risk‑assess from outset to duration of case to ensure prospects of success justify continuance; extract from cases where prospects fall below 51%.
  • Keep relevant insurers updated and fully informed to reduce potential exposure and increase savings.
  • Ensure correct retainers and rates are sent, costs estimates are updated annually, and retainer rates reviewed regularly.
  • Ensure correct medical and other evidence is obtained to advance and/or maximize the claim.
  • Discuss liability and/or quantum offers with relevant parties, preferring telephone communication over letters whenever possible.
  • Prioritize incoming daily post/emails, addressing urgent matters promptly while handling remaining items in order of importance and productivity.
  • May be required to act as an authorised person if requested.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience managing a claimant caseload of litigated and non‑litigated personal injury claims within all RTA portals and former Multi‑Track (now Intermediate Track).
  • Experience (advantage) running El/PL or OL cases.
  • Experience working to fee target and/or settlement targets.
  • Willingness to mentor and develop colleagues.
  • Good working knowledge of CPR and relevant case law/legislation, progressing claims in accordance with CPR.
  • Excellent customer care skills.
  • Clear, concise written and oral advice.
  • Effective customer communication skills.
  • Ability to liaise and build rapport with external agencies (medical agencies, investigators, barristers, etc.).
  • Strong IT skills, sound working knowledge of VF or similar case‑management system, and essential MS Office knowledge.
  • Excellent time management, organisational skills, calm and methodical approach, flexible and adaptable attitude to resolve issues.
