Role Description

Reporting directly to the Head of Payroll & Pensions responsible for accuracy of the payroll services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily operation of multiple Parasol payroll and pension processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring all payrolls are accurate and executed within agreed service levels.
  • Responsible for the accurate processing of pension contributions.
  • Ownership of implementing, maintaining and auditing controls to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and errors are mitigated in the payroll function including completing the monthly audits.
  • Ownership of monthly reconciliations.
  • Keeping up to date with technical and legislative developments in payroll or impacting payroll.
  • Implement new procedures to ensure continuous improvement within the department.
  • Support and coach team members with any identified training needs.
  • Focus on motivational activities with the team and rest of the business.
  • Lead the team using a performance development plan.
  • Support all team members regarding query escalation and resolution.
  • To improve service delivery for employees and finance.
  • Support the Head of Payroll & Pensions with HMRC relationship and associated queries and appeals.
  • Support the Head of Payroll & Pensions with tax year end tasks/project for payroll.
  • Support the Head of Payroll & Pensions with project-based work relating to the wider Group that requires technical payroll input.
  • Ad-Hoc duties/projects as required.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of Umbrella, CIS, PEO and PAYE/Payroll Bureau payroll models (significant experience in at least one of these payroll models).
  • Knowledge of Payroll legislation and ability to interpret and develop as policy to inform service.
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Flexible and logical approach to payroll related issues and processing.

Desirable:

  • CIPP qualified or Level 5 equivalent.
  • Experience of change management and implementing new payroll systems.
