Our client is a leading global private equity advisory firm, with over 50 years of working to inspire growth and ideas that transform businesses and over $80 billion in assets under management. Their key strategies comprise Global Buyout, Digital Growth, Global Impact and Credit.
This is the first hire into a newly created Portfolio Valuations and Analytics team and will work closely with the team leader in building out this function across the firm. The team's primary focus will be on portfolio company valuations, including related analysis, and will be integral to the firm’s operations.
The candidate will be focused on shaping and executing a valuations operating model for the firm and eventually leading a small team as more people are added to the team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a core role in shaping a new strategic capability at the firm and will suit someone comfortable operating with ambiguity, exercising judgement, data analytics and helping define practical best operating methodologies.
- Executing the firm’s valuation process, preparing company valuations and committee materials
- Presenting to the Valuation committee, articulating company performance, and engaging in open discussion with senior investment and operating partners
- Partner closely with investment teams to understand portfolio company performance, business drivers and valuation considerations
- Analyse financial performance with a strong focus on understanding underlying drivers and risks
- Strong commercial and valuation judgement, and not just mechanical application of models
- Produce clear, concise outputs that distil complex analysis into simple, decision-relevant insights
- Ability to understand different business models and sectors, and how those impact valuations
- Work with third party valuers to assess their models with those produced internally to triangulate appropriate valuation results and conclusions
- Demonstrate clear communication skills in triangulation valuation results with investment teams and/or the valuation committee
Experience and qualifications
- Strong academics including an undergraduate or postgraduate degree
- Prior experience with private equity fund valuations is essential. Market multiples-based approaches along with DCFs
- Experience in, or working closely with, private equity firms and a strong understanding of the PE model, strategies, and terminology
- Strong command of English language (verbal and written)
- Expert level Microsoft Excel and modelling, along with rest of Microsoft suite (Word, PowerPoint etc.)
- Experience with data, dashboarding and analytical tools is desirable (e.g. Power BI)
- Excellent time and project management skills. Ability to prioritise multiple tasks at once
- Comfortable working under pressure, within a global organisation, and with senior stakeholders
