A well-established private equity firm operating in the UK lower mid-market is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its London-based finance function. The firm has invested in over 40 companies across diverse sectors since 2010 and offers a close-knit, supportive working environment with the entire team based together in one office. This role is ideal for someone with strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, professional approach. You may be an AAT studier, AAT qualified, or early-stage ACCA/CIMA studier, or alternatively an individual with solid hands-on experience as an Assistant Accountant. While financial services experience is beneficial, it is not essential — the team is open to bright, capable candidates from a range of industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor supplier invoice receipt and manage accurate end-to-end processing.
  • Reconcile, code, obtain approvals, and post transactions to the accounting system.
  • Prepare supplier and staff expense payment runs.
  • Follow up outstanding invoices and manage supplier queries.
  • Complete monthly reconciliation and analysis of employee corporate card expenditure.
  • Raise quarterly invoices and allocate receipts accurately.
  • Apply standard credit control procedures when necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of Fund Reports and quarterly investor financial reports.
  • Support ad hoc investor queries and information requests.
  • Complete quarterly VAT returns, applying the relevant partial recovery rules.
  • Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, including the posting of journals.
  • Maintain manual cash books and handle weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Support the issuance of capital call notices to investors.

Candidate Profile

  • Excellent people skills with the ability to communicate confidently and professionally.
  • AAT studier/qualified, or early-stage ACCA/CIMA, or strong proven experience in an Assistant Accountant role.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting procedures, particularly sales and purchase ledger.
  • Understanding of VAT processes.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable meeting deadlines.
  • Team-oriented, positive, and adaptable.
