A national specialist contractor is looking to appoint an experienced, hands-on Civils Estimator to support the growth of its newly established civil engineering division. This is a stand-alone role suited to an Estimator capable of taking ownership of tenders up to approximately £3m, pricing from first principles and hitting the ground running. Experience working for a Tier 2/3, regional or smaller civil engineering contractor would be particularly advantageous. This is an excellent opportunity to join at an early stage of the division's development and play an important role in establishing and growing its civil engineering capability.
Duties include:
- Price civil engineering projects from enquiry through to tender submission.
- Complete take-offs and first principles estimates covering labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages.
- Obtain and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Review drawings and specifications, identifying commercial and delivery risks.
- Apply practical knowledge of construction methods, productivity and plant requirements to produce competitive estimates.
- Attend site visits and liaise directly with clients where required.
- Support tender negotiations and hand successful projects over to the delivery team.
The successful candidate should have:
- Proven estimating experience within civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure, ideally with a Tier 2/3, regional or smaller contractor.
- Strong first-principles estimating capability across labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages.
- Good practical knowledge of earthworks, drainage, concrete, roads, utilities and general civil engineering.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to recognise risk, opportunity and margin within a tender.
- A hands-on, proactive approach with the confidence to manage tenders independently and deal directly with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and site teams.
- A civil engineering qualification such as HNC/HND or degree would be advantageous, although substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
This can be a hybrid role with 2-3 days a week in their Warrington office. If you are an experienced Civils Estimator looking for the opportunity to join a growing division where you can have genuine influence on its development, please apply with your CV.
