Carmichael UK are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a major Tier 1 joint venture delivering AMP8 works across the Southern Water framework. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the delivery of key water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including treatment works, pumping stations, and reservoirs.
About the Role
You will play a key role in delivering commissioning activities across water and wastewater projects, ensuring systems are installed, tested, and handed over safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, you will support the full commissioning lifecycle from installation through to final handover and client training.
Duties will include:
- Leading and coordinating commissioning, installation, and system integration
- Developing and implementing commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation
- Overseeing FAT and SAT testing, ensuring equipment is fully tested and ready for delivery
- Carrying out hands-on commissioning, fault finding, and defect resolution
- Supervising subcontractor installations and ensuring compliance with ITPs and QA standards
- Reviewing technical documentation including P&IDs, FDS, and schematics
- Supporting client training and handover processes
- Monitoring supply chain performance and driving continuous improvement
- Providing progress updates and reporting to senior management
Requirements
Essential:
- HNC / Degree in Engineering or relevant apprenticeship (NVQ)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience commissioning within the water industry
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical installation and commissioning
- Experience delivering commissioning through to project handover
- ECS / CSCS card, Water Hygiene, SSSTS or SMSTS
- BS7671 18th Edition and First Aid at Work
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable:
- Chartered or working towards (MICE, IMechE, MCIOB)
- CompEx qualification
- Experience supervising site teams
- Knowledge of water/wastewater processes and standards
