Project Manager - Major Infrastructure Earthworks Location: Basildon, Essex (Lower Thames Crossing) Salary: £85,000 - £99,000 + Package Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time Benefits £6,300 Car Allowance 8% Employer Pension Contribution Private Medical Insurance (BUPA) 2.5x Life Assurance Annual Leave Allowance Opportunity to work on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects About the Role Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a major earthworks package on the Lower Thames Crossing project. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key leadership role on a nationally significant infrastructure scheme. You will take responsibility for the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of a large-scale earthworks section, managing multidisciplinary teams and working closely with senior project leadership to achieve programme objectives. The successful candidate will have a strong background in bulk earthworks, mass haul operations, cut and fill activities, and major infrastructure projects, with the ability to lead large teams while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and commercial performance. Key Responsibilities Lead a sectional delivery team to ensure earthworks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements. Manage day-to-day site operations across large-scale earthworks activities. Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, project stakeholders, supply chain partners and local communities. Drive a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements. Monitor project progress, identify risks and implement mitigation measures. Produce and manage detailed delivery programmes, resource plans and project budgets. Work closely with commercial, engineering and support functions to ensure successful project delivery. Ensure compliance with project specifications, technical standards and materials management requirements. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost performance. Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership and contribute to project-wide strategic planning. Support the development and mentoring of site management and engineering teams. Requirements Proven experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering or major infrastructure. Significant experience delivering bulk earthworks, linear earthworks, mass haul or large-scale earthmoving projects. Strong understanding of earthmoving plant, production outputs, methodologies and operational constraints. Experience managing large site teams and multiple work fronts. Ability to develop and manage project budgets and resourced programmes. Good commercial awareness with a track record of delivering projects successfully. Strong knowledge of earthworks specifications, materials management and construction methodologies. Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced project environment. Relevant CSCS card. SMSTS preferred. Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline advantageous. Why Apply?
