Carmichael UK is currently recruiting an experienced Agent with a strong earthworks background to support delivery on a major HS2 infrastructure package in Buckinghamshire. This is a key role within the site delivery team, offering the opportunity to take responsibility for large-scale bulk earthworks on one of the UK’s most significant civil engineering projects.

The Role

  • As Agent, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of earthworks activities, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with programme and quality requirements.
  • You will work closely with site engineers, section engineers, subcontractors, and senior management to drive progress across bulk excavation, cut & fill, and groundworks operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing bulk earthworks and groundworks activities on site
  • Leading site teams and coordinating subcontractors
  • Overseeing short‑term planning and programme delivery
  • Ensuring works are delivered to specification and quality standards
  • Managing method statements, permits, and temporary works
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Liaising with engineering, commercial, and planning teams
  • Reporting progress and issues to senior site management

About You

  • Proven experience as an Agent or Senior Agent on earthworks‑heavy civil engineering projects
  • Strong background in bulk earthworks, mass haul, and groundworks
  • Experience on major infrastructure, rail, or highways schemes preferred
  • SMSTS and CSCS essential
  • Confident leader with strong organisational and communication skills
  • Proactive and delivery‑focused approach
