Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Site Supervisor to join a major Tier 1 highways maintenance and infrastructure contract across East Sussex. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of essential highway improvement and maintenance schemes, working on a long‑term framework with one of the UK's leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractors.

As Site Supervisor, you will be responsible for safely coordinating site operations, managing site teams and subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered to programme, quality and safety standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will oversee a variety of highways and civil engineering activities including:

  • Highway maintenance and improvement works
  • Carriageway and footway schemes
  • Drainage installations and repairs
  • Kerbing, paving and reinstatement works
  • Utility interfaces and service avoidance activities
  • Traffic management coordination
  • Public realm and infrastructure projects

You will provide visible leadership on site, ensuring that operatives and subcontractors are briefed effectively, work safely and deliver right‑first‑time results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising site operatives, gangs and subcontractors
  • Delivering daily briefings and ensuring compliance with RAMS and permits
  • Coordinating labour, plant, materials and traffic management resources
  • Monitoring programme progress and maintaining accurate site records
  • Conducting inspections and quality checks
  • Managing safety, environmental and customer requirements
  • Identifying and escalating risks, delays and site issues
  • Supporting construction readiness and project planning activities
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders, utilities and local authorities
  • Driving a positive safety culture across live highway environments

Requirements

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Experience supervising highways, civils, utilities or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of highway maintenance and construction activities
  • Experience working within live highway environments
  • Understanding of RAMS, permits, inspections and quality processes
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Essential Qualifications

  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • CSCS Card
  • NRSWA Supervisor (preferred / required for street works supervision)
  • EUSR Safe Digging / Avoiding Underground Services
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Additional qualifications such as First Aid, Temporary Works Awareness, CAT & Genny or relevant highways competencies would be advantageous.
