Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of heavy civils schemes in the South West of England. This includes a reinforced concrete project within a regulated environment, requiring strong leadership, technical understanding, and the ability to build and manage a collaborative relationship with the client and key stakeholders.
This role represents a strategic appointment, responsible for driving safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery while maintaining the highest standards of governance, quality, and programme control.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing overall leadership for a multi-disciplinary project team including Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Construction Managers
- Developing and maintaining a strong, collaborative client relationship within a regulated environment
- Driving project controls, reporting, and performance monitoring to ensure delivery certainty
- Ensuring engineering solutions, buildability, and value engineering opportunities are fully considered
- Leading the successful delivery of large-scale reinforced concrete works
- Directing the commercial strategy to secure financial performance and manage risk
- Overseeing programme, resource planning, and supply chain performance
- Supporting recruitment, mentoring, and development of project personnel
- Acting as the senior point of contact for stakeholders, regulators, and delivery partners
- Contributing to future work-winning activity, including tenders and client presentations
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a highly experienced infrastructure leader with a proven track record delivering complex major projects.
Essential experience includes:
- Demonstrated success delivering major heavy civils projects (£50m+) in a direct delivery environment
- Strong background in reinforced concrete structures (design integration, sequencing, and delivery challenges)
- Experience working within regulated sectors (e.g., aviation, nuclear, water, rail, or similar controlled environments)
- Proven ability to manage and develop high-performing delivery teams
- Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Strong commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and risk management
- In-depth knowledge of modern construction methods, planning, and project controls
- CSCS card and relevant professional qualifications
You will be a visible, hands-on leader capable of balancing operational delivery with strategic oversight.
