We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join a major infrastructure project delivering complex geotechnical, ground engineering and heavy civil engineering works within a highly regulated environment. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of engineering delivery across key work packages including piling, earthworks, ground improvement, deep excavations, retaining structures, reinforced concrete works and associated geotechnical construction activities.

As a Section Engineer, you will be responsible for managing engineering activities across allocated sections of work, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with technical, programme and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading engineering delivery across geotechnical and civil engineering work packages.
  • Managing setting out, surveying and dimensional control activities.
  • Producing, reviewing and managing as-built records and engineering documentation.
  • Establishing and maintaining systems to monitor progress, quality, quantities and compliance.
  • Providing technical support and resolving engineering queries during construction.
  • Managing site engineering teams and coordinating subcontractor activities.
  • Ensuring works are completed within specified tolerances and to design requirements.
  • Developing and reviewing construction methodologies, RAMS, ITPs and quality documentation.
  • Monitoring workmanship, testing regimes and materials compliance.
  • Maintaining drawing registers, survey controls and technical records.
  • Supporting project planning and short-term programme delivery.
  • Promoting safe systems of work and maintaining high health, safety and environmental standards.

About You

We are interested in speaking with experienced Section Engineers who have worked on major infrastructure or geotechnical projects and can demonstrate:

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as a Section Engineer, Senior Engineer or experienced Site Engineer within civil engineering or geotechnical construction.
  • Strong understanding of setting out and engineering survey techniques.
  • Experience managing engineering teams and coordinating multiple work fronts.
  • Ability to interpret complex construction drawings, specifications and design information.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and project controls.
  • Experience supporting commercial and programme requirements on site.

Geotechnical Experience Desired

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following disciplines will be particularly well suited:

  • CFA, rotary bored, secant or sheet piling
  • Ground improvement and ground stabilisation
  • Deep excavations and temporary works
  • Retaining walls and earth retention systems
  • Bulk earthworks and remediation
  • Reinforced concrete structures
  • Marine and waterfront engineering works
  • Groundwater control and dewatering
  • Major infrastructure, defence or nuclear projects

Essential Qualifications

  • CSCS White PQP/AQP Card
  • SSSTS
  • Civil Engineering qualification (Degree, HNC or equivalent)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) or Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
  • First Aid at Work
  • ICE membership or working towards Chartership
  • Experience developing ITPs and quality plans

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the project, successful applicants must be eligible to obtain BPSS clearance. Candidates must meet project-specific security requirements and be able to satisfy the necessary clearance process.
