Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Electrical Site Supervisor (Black Hat) to join a major redevelopment project at Devonport Docks in Plymouth. This role sits within a live MOD environment where electrical safety, compliance, and strong frontline supervision are critical to successful delivery.
You will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day electrical activities on site, supporting safe systems of work, and ensuring all works are carried out in line with project procedures, statutory requirements, and electrical safety rules.
Security Requirements: Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. This process can take up to 8 weeks. Applicants must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all electrical works are carried out in compliance with project electrical safety rules, permits, and procedures
- Support the Authorised Person (AP) in maintaining safe systems of work
- Identify, report, and escalate electrical hazards and unsafe conditions
- Provide day-to-day supervision of electrical operatives and subcontractors
- Verify that all personnel are suitably competent, trained, and authorised for the tasks they are undertaking
- Ensure method statements, risk assessments (RAMS), and permits to work are understood and followed
- Monitor electrical activities to ensure compliance with project standards and industry best practice
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and clear communication of site expectations
- Liaise with supervisors, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure safe and effective sequencing of works
- Attend daily coordination meetings and contribute to planning discussions relating to electrical activities
- Maintain records of electrical inspections, equipment condition, and calibration
- Support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
- Promote a strong electrical safety culture across the project
- Identify opportunities to improve electrical processes, supervision, tooling, and competence
- Support training, mentoring, and development of site electrical personnel
About You: Weβre looking for a confident, competent, and safety-driven electrical professional with strong site supervision experience. Youβll be a key link between the workforce and the Authorised Person, helping ensure safe continuity of electrical operations in a high-risk environment.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Time-served electrician or equivalent (e.g. NVQ Level 3)
- ECS Gold Card β Electrician or Approved Electrician (minimum requirement)
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- City & Guilds 2382 β 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Strong knowledge of LV electrical systems and safe isolation procedures
- Proven experience supervising electrical works on construction or industrial sites
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, RAMS, and permit-to-work systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
- Proactive, safety-first mindset with the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours
