A full-time perm opportunity exists for Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyors to join a major infrastructure and defence project at Devonport Docks in Plymouth. This is a unique opportunity to work on one of the UK’s most complex and high-profile programmes within a secure and high-specification environment. As a key member of the commercial team, you’ll play a central role in cost control, contract management, and financial reporting on a large-scale civil engineering and construction project. The position offers long-term stability, professional growth, and the chance to contribute to an essential national infrastructure programme.

Please note – you must be eligible for UK security clearance i.e. must be a British National in line with project and NATO security requirements.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and administer NEC contracts and ensure compliance with project governance.
  • Prepare and review cost plans, valuations, and change control documentation.
  • Conduct cost forecasting, risk management, and value engineering exercises.
  • Support procurement and subcontractor management.
  • Produce detailed commercial reports and liaise with client and project stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and efficiency improvements.
  • Support commercial strategy and mentor junior surveyors where appropriate.

Requirements for this opportunity include:

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • MRICS or working towards chartered status.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil engineering, infrastructure, or defence projects.
  • Experience within marine, defence, or secure government environments.
  • Strong understanding of NEC contract forms.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and reporting skills.
  • Eligible for UK security clearance – must be a British National in line with project and NATO security requirements.
  • Right to work in the UK.
