We are seeking an experienced Highways Site Agent to join a project team delivering a live highways scheme in Nottingham. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for managing day‑to‑day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role suits a proactive and hands‑on Site Agent with a strong background in highways construction and proven experience managing subcontractors, site teams, and client interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of site delivery for highways works, from planning through to completion
- Manage and coordinate site teams, subcontractors, plant, and materials
- Ensure all works are delivered in line with programme, budget, and specification
- Lead and enforce health & safety on site, including RAMS, briefings, inspections, and compliance
- Maintain site records including site diaries, progress reports, and quality documentation
- Liaise with the client, designers, and internal management to ensure effective communication
- Coordinate traffic management, temporary works, and sequencing of activities
- Drive a “right first time” approach to quality and workmanship
- Support commercial and planning teams with progress updates and look‑ahead planning
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience working as a Site Agent on highways projects
- Strong understanding of highways construction methods and standards
- Valid CSCS Card – essential
- SMSTS – essential
- Solid health & safety leadership and compliance experience
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and site activities concurrently
- Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
- Experience working on local authority or National Highways schemes
- Temporary Works Supervisor/Coordinator qualification
