Carmichael are seeking a Senior Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis to work over various sites in Cheshire and Manchester predominantly on Utilities projects.

The Role

The Senior Engineer is to provide site engineering duties to several projects within the region, including the supervision of trainees and site engineers. The role involves establishing the level and survey control for contracts and setting out detailed works as per the contract drawings, ensuring that checks are made regularly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the level and survey control for contracts – handing over for the Site Engineer to undertake daily setting out activities with confidence.
  • Set out detailed works as per the contract drawings, ensuring that checks are made regularly – ensure the Site Engineers are capable and understand.
  • Be present for critical setting out activities.
  • Ensure records regarding health and safety and the work environment are complete, accurate and comply with organisational and legal requirements – working with the site teams to ensure the Site Engineers are completing their allocated R&Rs.
  • Deliver the work safely, without environmental incidents, and to the specified quality without defects.
  • Assist the Site Agent/Sub Agent in developing efficient work methods and techniques, ensuring the best use of resources and abilities are made.
  • Deputies for the Sub/Site Agent where required.
  • Materials Procurement – undertaking pre-start material take-offs, working with the PMs and populating material procurement schedules.
  • Carry out instrumental checks according to the agreed guidelines and schedule.
  • Complete records of quality audits following agreed procedures and timescales, i.e., at the end of the works.
  • Give feedback to the Site Agent/Sub Agent regarding areas where corrective action needs to be taken.
  • Compile ITPs & Quality Management Plans – be the lead for the Region.
  • Brief ITPs to the Site Teams before delivery.
  • Ensure the availability of resources and that they consistently meet Barhale’s and the client’s requirements for quality, quantity, and prompt delivery – advising the Contracts Manager and confirming engineering resources.
  • Deal with any actual or potential problems with resources promptly, liaising with the Site Agent where necessary – annual reports into Junior Engineer progress.
  • Ensure records of resources are complete and accurate.
  • Organise and conduct toolbox talks.
  • Prepare and issue method statements.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships between operatives and staff; client and contractor; suppliers and contractors; public and contractors; and subcontractors and contractors – attend design meetings for projects supporting the PMs.
  • Line Manager for Engineers – a key part of their development and growth.
  • Part of the recruitment process – new Site Engineers.
  • Ensure early engagement with SE on project awards, Tender Handover Meetings, and Pre-Commencement Meetings.
  • Obtain all ‘as built’ information, ensuring that it is accurate and relevant.
  • Record, store, and maintain records and correspondence in line with organisational and legal requirements – plan a minimum of 2 months before completion of the project for Handover of as-built and QA info.
