Carmichael UK are seeking an experienced MEP Design Manager to join a major infrastructure programme delivering works across the London Tunnels route. This is a key opportunity to lead the delivery of Stage 5 (Design for Construction & Manufacturing) MEPH design across multiple assets.
About the Role
As MEP Design Manager, you will take ownership of Stage 5 design delivery, acting as the principal design interface for key subcontract packages, including BMS and Fire Systems. You will work closely with supply chain partners and internal delivery teams to ensure design outputs are coordinated, compliant, and delivered in line with programme, technical, and commercial requirements across 12 assets.
Duties will include:
- Design Management
- Managing Stage 5 MEP design deliverables across subcontract supply chain partners
- Ensuring timely submission of high-quality design outputs
- Acting as the key interface between supply chain designers and the Design Integrator
- Managing design queries and driving efficient resolution of technical issues
- Identifying and managing interface risks, scope gaps, and design coordination issues
- Coordination & Delivery
- Overseeing design documentation, review processes, and approvals
- Ensuring alignment between multiple design packages and assets
- Supporting continuous improvement across the programme through lessons learnt
- Working closely with engineering, quality, and delivery teams to ensure design compliance
- Supporting commercial teams with subcontract management and cost control
- Stage 4 / Stage 5 Interface
- Managing Stage 4 design queries, defects, and transition into Stage 5 delivery
- Ensuring effective allocation of design resources across packages
- CDM Management
- Ensuring CDM Regulations 2015 requirements are implemented throughout design
- Supporting design risk reviews and mitigation processes
- Coordinating with CDM leads and ensuring risks are communicated effectively
- Promoting safe design for construction, maintenance, and operational use
Requirements
Essential:
- Strong experience in MEP / Building Services Design Management
- Proven experience delivering Stage 4 and Stage 5 design on major infrastructure projects
- Experience working with BMS and Fire Systems packages
- Strong understanding of design processes, technical assurance, and governance
- Experience implementing CDM Regulations within design environments
- Ability to manage supply chain partners and multidisciplinary teams
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Navisworks, ProjectWise and document control systems
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- CSCS Card
Desirable:
- Degree or professional qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge of specialist MEP software (e.g. Trimble Amtech)
- Experience working under NEC contracts
- Background in tunnelling or large-scale infrastructure projects
