Carmichael UK are seeking a proactive Instrumentation & Monitoring (I&M) Junior Project Manager to support the delivery of a major instrumentation and monitoring package on a significant civils project in Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer or project professional with an I&M background to gain hands-on experience in a highly regulated environment. You will play a key role in ensuring quality, safety, and accurate monitoring across one of the UK’s most important infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of the project’s instrumentation and monitoring scope, including sensor installation, data capture, and reporting.
- Support the Project Manager in maintaining compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and H&S regulations.
- Help prepare and analyse monitoring data reports to track ground movement, structural behaviour, and environmental performance.
- Work with site teams and I&M specialists to ensure monitoring systems are installed, calibrated, and maintained correctly.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with technical reporting and data management.
About You
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Instrumentation & Monitoring-related discipline (or equivalent qualification).
- Practical experience or understanding of instrumentation and monitoring systems in civil or geotechnical environments (e.g., inclinometers, piezometers, strain gauges, data loggers).
- Basic knowledge of quality assurance processes and health & safety regulations.
- CSCS card (essential); Sentinel certification (advantageous).
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Previous experience on civil engineering or infrastructure projects, particularly with I&M works, is highly desirable.
