A freelance opportunity, inside IR35, exists for an experienced civil engineering Quality Engineer/Inspector on an iconic rail/civils project. Your proficiency in the management of the quality process on large civil engineering projects for a tier one principal Contractor, preferably within the rail sector, would be advantageous. Experience on structural steel elements (bridges etc), reinforced civil engineering structures and earthworks compaction standards is essential.
As a Quality Engineer/Inspector, you will be responsible for the following:
- Ensuring that an effective Quality Management System is being operated and maintained at all levels.
- Providing an independent channel of communication on quality, initiating necessary action to resolve deficiencies, and ensuring satisfactory solutions have been achieved.
- Ensuring internal audits are undertaken in accordance with the Audit Schedule and that any adverse findings, including those raised by others, are closed out in a timely manner.
- Preparing, reviewing, and evaluating Inspection & Test plans including those of sub-contractors.
- Aiding the delivery teams in ensuring timely progressive sign-off of the ITP’s by attending weekly meetings.
- Ensuring the material approval process is maintained by the inspection of materials delivered, meeting project requirements and all appropriate certification is obtained and tracked.
- Reviewing Lifetime Quality Records throughout the progression of the works and supporting timely submission of handover packages.
- Providing guidance and assistance on Quality matters.
- Providing site training/mentoring on the requirements of the Quality Management Systems.
- Encouraging feedback from all employees and sub-contractors on possible areas of improvement and investigating the benefit of any employee recommendations regarding Quality matters.
- Evaluating Non-conformances to identify any apparent trends.
- Encouraging the philosophy of Get it Right Initiative.
Requirements for this opportunity include:
- Coming from civil engineering qualification is desirable, CQI Member and/or other professional memberships advantageous.
- Knowledge and understanding of QA / QC principles and their application to a project, suppliers and sub-contractors.
- Extensive understanding of and the implementation of civil engineering principles as well as of BS and ISO systems.
- Previous experience in a similar role for a tier one UK civil engineering principal Contractor on a large infrastructure project.
- Recent rail experience advantageous.
- CSCS, PTS or willing to obtain one.
