Our client, a leading environmental contractor, are currently seeking a Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of environmental and habitat creation projects, including wetlands, grasslands, and woodlands, from preconstruction through to completion. The role involves ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest environmental and quality standards. The Project Manager will coordinate with internal teams, designers, and external stakeholders to meet regulatory and ecological objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preconstruction Phase: Lead project planning, including scope, scheduling, resourcing, and risk management. Collaborate with design teams and consultants to refine plans, assess buildability, and achieve ecological goals. Review and develop method statements, construction phase plans, and risk assessments. Coordinate site investigations, surveys, and environmental assessments. Ensure compliance with regulatory and permitting requirements, including environmental and flood risk activity permits. Support procurement and appointment of subcontractors, suppliers, and materials.
  • Construction Phase: Manage day-to-day delivery on site, ensuring adherence to programme, budget, quality, and health and safety standards. Lead and coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. Oversee progress reporting, change control, and financial forecasting. Ensure compliance with environmental controls, mitigation measures, and sustainability standards. Supervise QA/QC processes, inspections, and project handover documentation. Lead progress meetings and maintain communication with design and environmental teams.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate with internal specialists, external consultants, and statutory bodies to meet biodiversity and environmental targets. Maintain effective relationships with local authorities, regulators, and other key stakeholders. Manage interface between design and construction teams to resolve technical and ecological issues.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Understanding of wetland, river, and habitat creation techniques and associated constraints.
  • Experience working under CDM Regulations and ISO standards (45001 and 14001 advantageous).
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting processes and risk management.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
