Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Section Engineer to join a Tier 1 contractor delivering a major highways infrastructure project in Cambridgeshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer to take ownership of a defined section of works on a large-scale scheme, working within a structured Tier 1 environment and contributing to the successful delivery of a nationally significant project.
The Role
As Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering and technical delivery of your allocated section, ensuring works are completed safely, to specification, and in line with programme requirements. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the day-to-day engineering activities for a designated section of works
- Coordinating site engineers and subcontractors to ensure technical compliance
- Producing and reviewing RAMS, ITPs, permits, and quality documentation
- Setting out (where required) and overseeing quality control processes
- Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with design, standards, and specifications
- Supporting programme, cost control, and progress reporting
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Proven experience as a Section Engineer or Senior Site Engineer on major highways projects
- Strong technical knowledge of highways construction, including earthworks, drainage, and pavements
- Experience working within a Tier 1 contractor environment
- A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- A strong understanding of quality assurance processes and documentation
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
