All staff must make a positive contribution to the Catholic ethos of the College, the College Equality & Diversity Policy, the pursuit of excellence and the highest standards of quality in all aspects of College life, and their own professional development, in accordance with the needs of the College.
The person appointed would be expected to:
- Assist and support teaching staff in a range of educational activities, both on and off the College premises.
- Support teaching staff to develop the curriculum for students with special educational needs.
- Take responsibility for the supervision of groups of students to aid cognitive development.
- Assist in the teaching of Foundation Learning skills.
- Share responsibility with teaching staff in supervising groups of students on visits.
- Be responsible for small groups of students in learning situations outside the College environment.
- Supervise students in practical areas including recreation areas and outdoor facilities.
- Attend meetings and complete mandatory training in accordance with the college's meeting/training schedule.
- Assist at the college's Open Evenings/Consultation Evenings.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and persons who may be affected by his/her omissions at work.
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and overall responsibility level of the post and as changing circumstances may require.
Contract and Salary Information:
- Closing date: 12 noon on Wednesday 7th January 2026, we reserve the right to close this vacancy early.
- Start date: As soon as possible.
- Contract: Temporary until 31st August 2026.
- Hours: 27 hours per week (over 4 days) term time only.
- Salary: Point 6 to 8 - £25,558 to £26,343 per annum (payable £15,408.53 to £15,881.79 per annum depending on experience).

With a diverse student body of over 2,000, the college offers a comprehensive range of academic and vocational qualifications, catering for A Level and BTEC students, GCSE Maths and English Language resits, and a Level 4 Art Foundation course in partnership with the University of the Arts, London. The college also offers a wide variety of Foundation Degree courses at Level 5 in collaboration with The University of Liverpool. Furthermore, Carmel College maintains a well-established Foundation Learning provision, offering Entry Level and Level 1 qualifications.
The college attracts students from over 100 schools across the region, with approximately 50% of students hailing from the St Helens and Knowsley boroughs, and the remainder coming from the wider Merseyside area.
