Job Overview:

As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in delivering engineering excellence through fault resolution, planned maintenance, and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for minimising equipment downtime, improving reliability, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment, building infrastructure, and utilities. Working within a fast‑paced FMCG environment, you will support site performance through preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices, while adhering to strict Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned and preventative maintenance tasks within the CMMS (SAP PM), including modular maintenance across the site (e.g., pumps, valves, filling lines, water treatment).
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and failures, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Lead or support shutdown activities during Asset Care Windows and annual planned outages, working closely with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards, including LOTO, Permit to Work, and statutory requirements.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities in SAP PM and support the reliability and performance KPIs for the site.
  • Apply Lean principles (e.g., TPM, RCM, RCA, 5S, 5‑Why) to drive continuous improvement and optimise equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to improve processes, share technical knowledge, and promote a culture of safety and excellence.
  • Provide engineering support for statutory inspections, audits, and water treatment operations when required.

Experience and Key Attributes:

  • Proven hands‑on engineering/technical experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG, food, or beverages.
  • Multi‑skilled in mechanical and electrical disciplines, with experience in PLCs (Siemens S7), HMIs, and SCADA systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding and application of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, including Food Safety, with experience in LOTO and Permit to Work systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills with a track record of improving reliability and reducing downtime.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • IT literate (MS Office) with experience using SAP PM or similar maintenance management systems.
  • Driven, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Candidates will be qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 3 and preferably possess an HNC (both in a relevant Engineering discipline), or equivalent.
  • IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) desirable.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of the relevant Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental aspects (including Food Safety).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical coupled with practical skills.
  • IT literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • SAP PM knowledge desirable.
  • Manufacturing/Food/Beverage/FMCG industry experience desirable.
  • Understanding of ‘right first time’ principles.
  • Having knowledge of, and actively using, the site Lean Principles (e.g., RCM, RCA, PDCA, 5S, 5‑Why) and Operational Excellence.
  • Able to lead and facilitate fact‑finding, technical fault‑finding, and mechanism studies.
  • Ability to train/coach others is desirable.
