Overview
The S12 Security Guarding Leadership Group brings together security leaders to work as a collective with the Government & the Security Minister. Their mandate is to address and elevate critical industry issues, promote higher standards and professionalism, enhance public safety and positively shape the perception of the UK security guarding sector.
The S12 Communications & Engagement Lead role is responsible for coordinating, planning & delivering the S12 Communication Strategy & Workplan, supporting the day-to-day S12 communications delivery, updating on S12 workstream updates/progress, and working in collaboration with key partners in support of public safety and raising standards across the UK Private Security Industry to achieve the S12 strategic aims.
This role is essential to ensure the S12 has a public voice (engaging and listening), ensuring the interests of all security companies, irrespective of size, are clearly, consistently, and credibly represented to government, regulators, media and industry stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- To support, plan & coordinate the S12 Communication & Engagement Strategy & Workplan/Framework & operational service delivery.
- To lead where appropriate, act on own initiative and proactively support the operational & strategic aims of the S12’s strategic and business plans.
- To manage the ‘day to day’ S12 communications and engagement responsibilities, working towards S12 agreed priorities, whether through social media, workstream updates and/or working with/supporting key stakeholders in support of the S12 strategic aims.
- To work in partnership with key stakeholders (as a point of contact) to develop and support consistent and transparent S12 communications & engagement opportunities and events.
- To ensure regular S12 industry updates (in addition to day to day) which capture the aims of the S12, key messages and workstream updates. Striving to improve and evolve the S12 communications, engagement and impact.
- To ensure clear and consistent messaging which represents the security guarding industry & promotes trust, confidence and transparency of the S12 strategic aims.
- Able to analyse communication/engagement impact, can report on performance data, convert into tangible outputs & identify solutions to ensure continuous improvement and meaningful communications/engagement outcomes.
- To support the COO & prepare briefing notes, talking points, and Q&A material ahead of S12’s engagement with the Security Minister, Home Office and Security Industry Authority, MPs and other policymakers. To ensure messaging aligns with S12’s agreed priorities.
- To prepare media briefings/presentations, draft press releases and statements on behalf of S12 when required.
- Act as point of contact for all S12 media enquiries. This will include crafting surveys & polls to capture industry perspectives, organisational memory and strengthen the S12’s role as the voice of the sector.
- To act as responsible owner for the S12 website, responsible for updating, coordinating and supporting its delivery/use/growth in support of the S12 strategic aims.
- To manage and coordinate all S12 digital communication channels (e.g. S12 website, LinkedIn, other social media).
- Share updates with the wider UK security industry to ensure transparency and engagement (Creating a mailing list and quarterly newsletter).
- To develop S12 communications & engagement best policy and practice.
- To coordinate & support S12 events, webinars, board meetings & key meetings in support of S12 strategic aims.
- To ensure all comms/engagement material information is stored and managed in line with GDPR policies and S12 guidance.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Able & willing to work in collaboration as part of a small, dynamic and agile core S12 team.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) with the ability to quickly establish and maintain strong relationships across all levels.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills to help ensure the delivery of a fast-paced S12 workstreams & ongoing governance.
- Previous engagement & media experience (government, public, private sector, regulation, policing, charities, corporate) with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in media software, i.e. WordPress, Page Builders, Adobe Creative Cloud, Data Management, Segmentation & Mass Mailing.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
- Ability to manage competing priorities, resilient with a positive and confident solutions focused approach.
- Has excellent customer focus and a proactive approach.
- Ability to multi-task, working accurately and efficiently.
- Able to plan and organise own workload, accordingly, working autonomously where required.
- Build effective working relationships with a range of people at all levels.
- Adaptable and can respond positively to unforeseen circumstances and change.
- Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve work practices.
Desirable
- Experience of working with senior managers and meetings/boards.
- Knowledge of data protection (GDPR) and information governance.

Additional Information
The role is funded on a 2-year rolling contract. Location is working from home with occasional travel or out of hours work may be required for events or deadlines. Hours are flexible. 25 Days Holiday.
