The Senior Brewer is a key member of the Production Senior Leadership Team, applying their expertise and experience to lead the Production Team in safely and sustainably brewing and packaging beer. They are responsible for delivering outstanding quality while meeting volume targets and maintaining cost efficiency. This is a ‘hands on’ role, where you will be required to utilise your brewing expertise on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Use of expansive brewing experience to brew exceptional beers and lead by example.
- Lead all Production Team Members across brewing, fermentation, and cask racking, setting clear objectives to drive performance aligned with the company values and Production targets.
- Take a lead role in overseeing daily operations to ensure that all brewing activity meet production schedules.
- Maintain full compliance with quality systems and health and safety policies.
- Work closely with the inhouse Maintenance Engineers and external contractors to fulfil proactive and reactive plant maintenance requirements and meet sustainability targets.
- Support innovation initiatives by collaborating with the Production Director and Marketing on new product development.
- Support the development of Production Team Members through structured development plans, while collaborating with the Head Brewer and Production Director on succession planning for key roles.
Experience and Qualifications
- Must have a flexible approach to cover the demands of a busy production environment, willing and able to support the Production Team in all brewing activity.
- Extensive experience in a senior position within a production brewery environment.
- CIBD Diploma in Brewing and/or a science-based degree.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of, and commitment to, health and safety regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, fire safety requirements, manual handling guidelines, and the correct use of PPE.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop, lead and motivate a talented team.
- Experienced in conducting quality checks, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring the finished product consistently meets the highest standards of quality and consistency.
- Good commercial acumen with the ability to understand and control production budgets.
- Computer literate with strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience using an ERP system (NAV or similar) is desirable.
