Quality Engineering Intern – Cambourne

ZEISS is a leading technology company specializing in optics and optoelectronics.

This 12‑month internship provides exposure to multiple teams across Carl Zeiss Ltd and Carl Zeiss Microscopy Ltd, focusing on continuous improvement and process optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with different teams across both businesses to understand current ways of working and key challenges.
  • Map and document existing processes to create clear, structured process flows.
  • Identify inefficiencies, gaps and improvement opportunities within current processes.
  • Facilitate collaboration between teams to align on best practices and consistent approaches.
  • Support the development and implementation of process improvements.
  • Analyse quality and operational data to identify trends and support improvement initiatives.
  • Develop dashboards and visualisations (e. g. Power BI) to track performance and key metrics.
  • Support the definition and alignment of KPIs across departments and sites.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure improvements are practical, sustainable and adopted.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects across the business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or current pursuit of a degree.
  • Placement year students, postgraduates seeking industry experience, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Interest in process improvement, quality and operational excellence.
  • Curious mindset and desire to understand how things work.
  • Confident communicator who can engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working across multiple teams and topics.
  • Organised, proactive and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Basic understanding of data analysis and visualisation; Power BI knowledge is advantageous but not essential.
  • Interest in engineering and manufacturing environments.
  • Comfortable with process maps and flowcharts.
  • Team player who brings enthusiasm and positivity.
