Caritas Recruitment is currently recruiting for 3 qualified social workers for East Riding of Yorkshire's established Looked After Children Team. East Riding received a Good rating from Ofsted and is looking to increase by recruiting experienced social workers for various offices in East Riding for the Looked After Children Teams.

Looked After Children (LAC) teams are specialised social work units responsible for the ongoing care, planning, and safeguarding of children placed in local authority care. Their primary duty is to act as corporate parents, ensuring every child thrives in a safe, stable, and supportive environment.

37 hours per week with local parking available. They will also consider condensed hours (37 over 4 days) with hybrid working of 2 days in the office and 2 from home.

Duties include:

  • Care Planning: Creating and managing comprehensive, statutory Care Plans that detail where the child lives, their daily needs, and the long-term goal (e.g., reunification, long-term foster care, or adoption).
  • Statutory Visits: Social workers must regularly visit children in their placements to monitor their safety, development, and overall wellbeing.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Ensuring children receive regular statutory health assessments (physical, emotional, and mental) and coordinating with dedicated LAC health professionals.
  • Educational Support: Working with Virtual Schools to promote educational achievement, ensuring Personal Education Plans (PEPs) are in place, and advocating for the child's academic needs.
  • Promoting Permanence: Securing a safe, stable, and permanent living arrangement, and managing transitions into long-term foster care, special guardianship, or adoption.
  • Family Time (Contact): Facilitating and managing arrangements for the child to safely stay in touch with their birth families and wider support networks.
  • Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs): Working alongside IROs to formally review the child's Care Plan every six months to ensure their voice is heard and their rights are upheld.
  • Transition to Adulthood: Preparing older youths for independent living, supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, and managing the handover to Leaving Care teams.
