Caritas Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Supervising Social Worker to join Devon County Council's North & Mid Fostering Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated fostering service committed to supporting foster carers and ensuring children and young people experience safe, stable and nurturing placements. The team plays a vital role in providing supervision, guidance and support to foster carers while ensuring compliance with fostering regulations and best practice standards.

About the Role

As a Supervising Social Worker, you will work closely with foster carers across North & Mid Devon, promoting high-quality fostering practice and supporting carers to achieve the best possible outcomes for children in their care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing supervision, support and professional advice to foster carers
  • Conducting foster carer visits and statutory supervision
  • Completing unannounced visits and annual foster carer reviews
  • Undertaking quality assurance activities
  • Supporting the recruitment, assessment and ongoing development of foster carers
  • Assisting with the delivery of training for prospective and existing foster carers
  • Ensuring compliance with National Minimum Standards for Fostering and Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011
  • Promoting permanence options and understanding of legal frameworks for children cared for within family and friendship networks

Requirements

  • Social Work qualification
  • Social Work England registration
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Successful completion of ASYE
  • Significant post-qualifying experience within Children's Social Care
  • Experience within Fostering services or the ability to demonstrate highly transferable skills from a related children's social work setting
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong understanding of fostering legislation, regulations and safeguarding practice
  • High-quality assessment, recording and planning skills
  • Ability and willingness to work across the North & Mid Devon area

Working Arrangements

Location: Taw View, North Walk, Barnstaple, EX31 1EE

Hours: 37 hours per week

Social Workers must be available to undertake visits and meet service requirements. Occasional home working may be available and can be discussed at interview.
