We are seeking a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join a specialist Drugs and Alcohol (D&A) team in Rochdale. You will work with children, young people and families where parental or young person substance misuse may be affecting safety, wellbeing and development. The role involves completing thorough assessments, identifying risk and protective factors, and developing clear, outcome-focused plans that keep children at the centre of all decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include managing a varied caseload, undertaking statutory visits and reviews, responding to safeguarding concerns, and preparing accurate reports for meetings, panels and court proceedings. You will work closely with parents and carers to promote positive change, while maintaining professional relationships that are respectful, purposeful and focused on improving outcomes. Effective partnership working will be essential, including collaboration with education, health, youth services, substance misuse providers, police and other agencies. You will contribute to child protection processes, care planning and permanence planning, ensuring that records are comprehensive, timely and compliant with relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. You should have experience of statutory children’s social work, including assessment, safeguarding and care planning, together with an understanding of the impact of drug and alcohol misuse on children and family relationships. Strong communication, organisation, analysis and report-writing skills are required, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and work confidently in complex situations. You will be expected to demonstrate sound professional judgement, a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and a genuine focus on improving outcomes for children and families. A valid driving licence and the ability to travel within the area may be required.
