An experienced and motivated Children’s Advanced Practitioner is required to join a Looked After Children (LAC) team in Bury. You will work with children and young people who are looked after, care leavers, and their families or carers, ensuring that their needs are assessed, plans are effective, and outcomes are improved. The role involves managing a varied caseload, promoting stability and permanence, and helping children achieve their potential in safe, nurturing environments.
Responsibilities will include completing high-quality assessments, developing and reviewing care plans, undertaking statutory visits, and coordinating looked after reviews. You will work closely with foster carers, residential staff, parents, schools, health professionals, legal representatives, and other partner agencies. You will contribute to permanence planning, placement stability, safeguarding and risk management, and where appropriate, proceedings relating to children in care. As an advanced practitioner, you will provide professional advice, support colleagues with complex cases, contribute to reflective practice, and help promote consistently high standards of social work. Accurate recording, timely reports, and effective communication with children and families will be essential.
You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England, together with significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care and experience of working with looked after children. A sound understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, safeguarding procedures, care planning, permanence, and court processes is required. You should be confident managing complex and sensitive situations, able to make evidence-based decisions, and committed to strengths-based, child-centred practice. The successful candidate will demonstrate resilience, organisation, professional curiosity, and the ability to work collaboratively while maintaining clear professional boundaries. A valid driving licence and access to transport may be required for visits and meetings.
