Salaried General Practitioner

Carisbrooke surgery has an exciting opportunity for a part time salaried GP to join our friendly and committed team for a minimum of 3 days per week. We are a progressive, busy training practice, with patient care and high service levels at the heart of what we do. We received a Good CQC rating on our last 2 inspections. The practice services approx 8500 patients.

Main duties of the job

Due to the strong clinical team and streamlined administration processes, GPs can prioritise clinical quality over quantity and successful candidate/s would be encouraged and supported to exercise specialist interests. We offer a mix of telephone, face to face and e-consultations.

Job responsibilities

• To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract.
• Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
• Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
• Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
• Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice; disease management protocols, provide counselling and health education.
• Work within current policy for prescribing.
• Be available and accessible to patients at all times as agreed.
• Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard.
• Compile and issue computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
• Undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
• To take part in, and lead on, areas including clinical auditing and data collection.
• Support under-graduate student training in the surgery.
• Support GP registrar training in practice.
• Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary.
• Provide short term emergency cover for unplanned absence of colleagues.
• Provide emergency on call cover for the practice.
• Provide cover for extended access as required.

Service Development

• Be involved in developing primary care services to meet the needs of the practice population.
• Working in close collaboration with the practice team to ensure that access targets are reached.
• Support health development and ensure health promotion work is undertaken to allow the practice population to make informed choices.

Managerial

• Awareness of, and compliance with, all relevant organisation policies and procedures, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and infection control.
• Undertake all mandatory training as determined by the practice.
• Committed to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based practice.
• Contribute to evaluated audit and clinical standards setting within the organisation.

Quality

• Adhere to GMC Good Medical practice.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
• Adhere to National and local guidelines (e.g NICE).
• Engage with local quality frameworks e.g. QoF, Quality Improvement, Prescribing Incentive Schemes.
• Reflect on personal practice through SEA, NHS appraisal, patient complaints.

In the performance of duties, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

The post-holder must recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to communicate effectively with other team members, patients, carers and recognise people's needs to alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

Person Specification

• Qualified GP MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent.
• Full GMC Registration.
• Eligibility to practice in the UK independently.
• National Performers List registration.
• Appropriate defense indemnity (MPS/MDU).
• Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
