We are seeking an experienced and proactive Estates and Facilities Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership across our Isle of Wight school sites (Carisbrooke & Medina College, inc the Island VI Form). This is a key role, ensuring our buildings, grounds, and facilities are safe, compliant, well‑maintained, and fully support the educational vision of each school. This role operates in a matrix structure and works across two schools in a shared role. Operational reporting to Headteacher or their nominated SLT delegate.

The postholder will lead on estates management, facilities, health and safety, and site services, working closely with school leaders to create high‑quality environments where pupils, staff, and visitors can thrive. In addition, the role will play a central part in developing the commercial use of school facilities, including lettings, partnerships, and income generation. You will ensure maximum return from our estates while maintaining safeguarding standards, statutory compliance, and the integrity of the school environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic and day‑to‑day management of estates, facilities, health & safety, and site services
- Ensuring full compliance with health & safety, statutory, and regulatory requirements
- Oversight of maintenance, repairs, and development works across all sites
- Line management and coordination of site and facilities staff
- Working with school leadership on lettings, partnerships, and income‑generating activities
- Ensuring all external use of facilities aligns with safeguarding requirements and school values
- Contributing to long‑term estates planning and continuous improvement
The successful candidate will:
- Have significant experience in estates and facilities management, ideally within an education or multi‑site environment
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of health & safety and compliance requirements
- Be highly organised, proactive, and solutions‑focused
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
- Be confident balancing operational demands with strategic planning and commercial opportunities
