Volunteer - Hamper Scamper Lead in Cheltenham

Each Christmas, Hamper Scamper brings together businesses, schools, community groups, volunteers and supporters from across our communities to help make Christmas a little brighter for children who might otherwise go without.

Our aim is to generate enough donated gifts to support more than 2,500 children, including those attending local schools and those being supported by CP and other organisations.

That means thousands of gifts arriving at our Christmas Grotto in Cheltenham over a very short period of time. Every one of those gifts needs to be received, sorted, organised, packed and prepared for collection or delivery. It is a huge operation, and making sure it runs smoothly is every bit as important as generating the donations themselves.

That is where our Hamper Scamper Lead Volunteers come in.

Throughout the campaign, we can welcome more than 20 volunteers each day, many joining us through our corporate donors and partners. As a Lead Volunteer, you will work alongside our Chief Elves to help welcome, brief, train, supervise and support those volunteers, making sure everyone knows what they are doing and that the Grotto remains organised, productive and enjoyable.

We are looking for someone who can be with us for all, or most, of the period from 30 November to 18 December, between 9am-5pm. The consistency you will bring wil be really important - you will become someone who knows how the operation works, can help new volunteers quickly find their feet and can support our Chief Elves to keep everything moving during one of the busiest periods o our year.

You will need to be able to make your own way to and from the Grotto in Cheltenham each day, although reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with CCP's volunteer arrangements.

It is a busy, practical and very sociable role at the heart of Hamper Scamper - helping turn thousands of individual acts of generosity into Christmas gifts for local children.

We as a Charity

CCP was originally founded in 1989 by a local businessman in response to the growing number of homeless young people in Cheltenham. Recognising that people as young as 16 were sleeping rough around town after having thrown out of their family home, he purchased a building and opened a 10-bed hostel.

We have grown a lot since then and now aim to transform the lives of children, young people, families, and vulnerable adults by preventing homelessness, strengthening families and promoting independence. With a head office in Cheltenham, we currently employ over 250 staff, backed up by a team of over 150 volunteers, delivering services and projects in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Wiltshire, and Dorset.
