About the role
We're looking for an enthusiastic, curious and hands‑on Cloud Engineer to join our platform team and help us operate, maintain and improve our internal AWS infrastructure and multi‑cloud SaaS product environment. This is a broad cloud infrastructure engineering role, and you will have the opportunity to gain experience of two of the top three cloud provider platforms and exposure to others. As a candidate, you will not be expected to have knowledge across all providers and products from day one. You should be comfortable with the concepts of cloud services, have some experience of either AWS or Azure core services, be intellectually honest about what you don't yet understand, and genuinely motivated to close gaps via self‑study, support from colleagues and a lot of hands‑on activities. We will invest in the right candidate to ensure you are well‑equipped to fulfil the role.
Requirement
- Day-to-Day Operations
- Monitor, triage and resolve infrastructure incidents across the cloud estate.
- Maintain and improve observability — alerting, dashboards and log aggregation.
- Manage and maintain cloud resources: right‑sizing, cost visibility and tagging.
- Handle internal infrastructure provisioning, scaling and configuration changes safely and consistently.
- Handle new customer environment (SaaS) infrastructure provisioning, scaling and configuration changes safely and consistently.
- Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Write and maintain IaC using Terraform across cloud providers (migration from Bicep in progress).
- Maintain/improve CI/CD pipelines to support reliable, repeatable deployments.
- Identify and automate repetitive manual processes.
- Security & Compliance
- Contribute to patching and vulnerability remediation.
- Support audit and compliance activities — cloud config, access reviews and evidence gathering in support of CIS/ISO controls.
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work with Maron software engineers to support new software version deployments using containers.
- Create and maintain clear, up‑to‑date runbooks and infrastructure documentation.
- Participate in on‑call rotation (structured, with escalation paths and tooling support).
Essential
- Solid working knowledge of at least the core products of either Azure or AWS - including compute, networking, storage and IAM fundamentals.
- Some experience writing infrastructure as code — Terraform or ARM/Bicep preferred, but CDK or Pulumi would demonstrate conceptual knowledge.
- Comfortable with Linux administration and scripting.
- Some experience of one of the following: Windows Batch, PowerShell and Bash.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals: VPCs/VNets, subnets, security groups, DNS, load balancers.
- A methodical, safety‑first approach to changes in production environments.
- Clear written communication — you document what you build and why.
Desirable
- Experience of containerised workloads via Docker.
- Experience of CI/CD tooling — Azure DevOps and its Pipelines a preference, but GitHub Actions, GitLab Pipelines or similar will demonstrate the required conceptual understanding.
- Experience of observability tooling e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor and/or CloudWatch.
- Working knowledge of secrets management and PKI (Azure Key Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, Web Server Digital (SSL/TLS) certificates).
- Any exposure to a second or third cloud platform (even via a lab or learning context).
Recognised
- Cloud certifications (AZ-900, AZ-104, AWS CLF-C02, SAA-C03).
- Experience in a SaaS company or MSP environment.
- Experience of Cloud Infrastructure management.
- Projects worked outside of your role – showing an enthusiasm for cloud technologies and a genuine interest in their workings.
