Petrosys Group, Interica Data Center is seeking a Project Technician to support the digitisation and transcription of oil and gas subsurface data within our data center operations. This role is specifically focused on upstream oil and gas data, including geological, geophysical, seismic, and well data. Candidates without exposure to oil and gas data types are unlikely to be successful in this role. You will work with legacy physical media and digital datasets that form part of national and operator subsurface archives. The role supports regulatory submissions, data preservation, and technical data delivery for exploration and production workflows. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background or education in geology, geophysics, geoscience, or G&G data management who wants to build hands‑on experience with real exploration and production data.
Key Responsibilities
- Digitize and transcribe oil and gas subsurface data including seismic sections, well logs, geological reports, maps, and interpretation products.
- Operate specialist scanning, transcription, and tape-handling equipment used for upstream oil and gas data.
- Apply technical metadata relevant to geology and geophysics, ensuring data is correctly classified and discoverable.
- Perform detailed quality control checks to confirm data accuracy, completeness, and technical integrity.
- Assist with ingestion of subsurface datasets into Interica’s data management platforms and client repositories.
- Prepare and submit oil and gas data packages to regulatory bodies such as the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA).
- Maintain detailed tracking reports using Microsoft Excel and Word covering transcription status, data volumes, and delivery milestones.
- Handle physical media such as tapes, cores, logs, and boxed reports in accordance with chain‑of‑custody and security procedures.
- Work closely with data managers, geoscience specialists, and technical teams to meet project and regulatory deadlines.
Required Background and Experience
- This role is intended for candidates with exposure to oil and gas subsurface data. Suitable backgrounds include geology, geophysics, geoscience, or G&G data management.
- Familiarity with upstream oil and gas data types such as seismic data, well logs, geological reports, maps, or interpretation outputs.
- Understanding of common oil and gas file formats such as SEG‑Y, LAS, TIFF, SEGD is strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured, technical workflows.
- Comfortable working in a data center or technical operations environment.
Physical and On‑Site Requirements
- Ability to safely lift and move boxes and equipment (up to approximately 20 kg).
- Comfortable performing repetitive, hands‑on tasks and working on‑site in a secure facility. Manual handling training will be provided if required.
Additional Skills
- SQL Server, basic experience, including running queries, validating data loads, or reviewing metadata tables related to oil & gas datasets.
- Microsoft Product Suite, advanced experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook for reporting, documentation, and client or regulator deliverables.
- Microsoft Copilot, basic experience using Copilot to assist with reporting, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
- Client Communication, advanced experience communicating clearly and professionally with internal teams, clients, and regulatory stakeholders regarding oil & gas data status, issues, and deliveries.
What We Offer
- Direct exposure to real‑world oil and gas exploration and production data workflows.
- Hands‑on experience with subsurface data transcription, regulatory submissions, and technical archiving.
- On‑the‑job training from experienced oil and gas data professionals.
- Opportunities for advancement.
