Role Overview
As a Cytologist, you will perform microscopic evaluations of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens to detect cellular changes related to cancer, infections, or other pathologies. Your responsibilities include screening, interpreting, and preparing specimens, marking abnormal areas, and providing preliminary diagnoses for pathologist review. You will ensure accurate documentation, follow regulatory standards, and collaborate with clinical teams to support diagnostic accuracy.
Key Duties
- Screen and interpret various cytology specimens including Pap tests, body fluids, and FNAs.
- Prepare reagents, stains, and solutions for specimen analysis.
- Assist with rapid onsite evaluations (ROSE) for FNAs.
- Maintain quality control, document findings, and adhere to regulatory standards such as CAP and CLIA.
- Collaborate with pathologists and support specimen processing and laboratory operations.
- Participate in training, quality improvement, and continuing education activities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or related biological science; certification eligible (Cytologist - CT, ASCP preferred).
- 1-3 years of experience in cytology screening and FNA procedures preferred; new graduates may be considered.
- Strong communication, confidentiality, and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of electronic health records and laboratory protocols.
