Residential Support Worker

Role: To support the learning, emotional, and social needs of children and young people within the residential home. The Residential Support Worker will participate in recording, monitoring, and evaluating individual child strategies and support plans.

Duties: This job description outlines the typical duties expected of the post-holder. However, duties may vary or be amended without changing the level of responsibility.

Hours of Work: Residential Care Workers work hours necessary to fulfill their tasks, as determined by management in consultation with the Senior Management Team. Unsociable hours, including weekends, evenings, and Bank Holidays, are part of the role.

Location: Tring, Hertfordshire

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the educational, social, emotional, and behavioral development of children and young people under the guidance of management.
  2. Support the development of the house environment to ensure high standards of care.
  3. Implement and monitor Personal Education Programmes and Individual Care Plans.
  4. Provide primary care support to children and young people to foster healthy attachments.
  5. Responsible for the care of children/young people during shifts, including sleeping-in duties.
  6. Maintain positive relationships with professionals, team members, parents, and agencies.
  7. Support children and young people\’s emotional and behavioral development and social skills.
  8. Ensure health and safety compliance within the home.
  9. Participate in mandatory and other training sessions.
  10. Engage in supervision sessions to understand children’s behaviors.
  11. Develop specific work projects with children/young people under supervision.
  12. Maintain high standards of communication and documentation.
  13. Contribute to children and young people\’s development through social activities.

Standards and Quality Assurance:

  1. Support the ethos of Caridon as outlined in the Statement of Purpose.
  2. Set a good example in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  3. Attend all staff meetings and undertake assigned duties.

Health & Safety: Maintain awareness of fire and health & safety regulations and promote equality and diversity.

Qualifications: Hold or be working towards the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People\’s Workforce.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children in care or educational settings.
  • Good educational achievement and report-writing skills.
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory training, including Positive Management of Challenging Behavior.
  • Willing to complete the Level 3 Diploma.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equality, health and safety, and child protection.
  • Skills in organizing activities, teamwork, creativity, and supportiveness.
  • Full driving license and IT skills.
