About the Role
We’re looking for someone with excellent technical expertise who can help take Caribou’s product team to the next level. You need to be a highly experienced full-stack engineer, have excellent product intuition and execution and have previously taken products from zero to one. With the latest advancements of AI and LLMs, you are expected to have excellent knowledge and stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and technologies in order to build fast and effectively. You should also be comfortable with building solo - without a dedicated design team. You’ll be responsible for distilling raw business objectives into core customer-facing features. You need to be customer focused and relentlessly pursue a best in class customer experience. You’ll be responsible for building core customer-facing features end-to-end: understanding real user problems, designing thoughtful solutions, and implementing them across the stack. You know how to lead product discovery and user interviews, shaping what we build as much as how we build it. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, AI, and design. You’ll work closely with founders and cross‑functional teams to turn ambiguous problems into elegant, scalable solutions that meaningfully improve customer experience.
You Will Be…
- Leading full‑stack development of new product features from problem statement to production.
- Participating directly in product discovery: analysing customer feedback, mapping workflows, identifying opportunities, shaping features and prioritisation.
- Leveraging AI/LLMs in pragmatic ways—whether to accelerate development, power product features, automate internal processes, or reshape complex tax workflows.
- Collaborating closely with our tax team to deeply understand user needs and transform them into product improvements.
- Owning infrastructure and architecture decisions required to deliver reliable, high‑performance features.
- Raising the quality bar: writing maintainable code, contributing to design systems, and improving engineering processes.
Requirements for the Role
- 5+ years of experience as a full‑stack or product‑focused engineer in a web‑app startup environment.
- Strong technical skills across modern frontend frameworks (React/TypeScript or similar) and backend development (Go, Node, Python, or similar).
- Able to lead in product discovery, user interviews, shaping, and planning - not just execution.
- A vast set of experience shipping polished, user‑facing product features end-to-end.
- Obsession in understanding AI/LLMs, including integrating them into applications or using them as part of the development workflow.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain tradeoffs and lead product discussions.
- Highly self-sufficient but with excellent collaboration skills - you should know when to use each to move fast.
- Experience working in early‑stage startups or high-autonomy environments.
- Comfortable defining technical architecture in ambiguous, 0→1 environments.
About Caribou
International tax is a rigged system. Tax rules get ever‑more complicated, compliance gets more expensive, and the Big Four controls the expertise. They charge fees that only giant companies can afford, while smaller businesses are left flying blind. Caribou is a tax platform designed to make international tax accessible to every global business. We’re fixing Transfer Pricing first, where one million businesses are in need, but only ten thousand experts exist. Our backers include Y Combinator, Accel, Lakestar and angel investors who were founders or executives of leading companies in London and San Francisco.
Perks & Benefits (for UK‑based full‑time employees)
- Competitive salary
- Generous EMI options
- 100% book subsidy
- Pension
- Health insurance
- Custom WFH equipment setup
